Reproductive Health (HR)

AWWG provides reproductive health services for refugee communities in North London ensuring that these services are available and accessible to women in these communities.

As part of this programme, we provide communities with advocacy and negotiating skills rasid awareness among various target groups, i.e. policy makers, voluntary groups to ensure that RH is now firmly on the agenda of service providers.

Our key achievement in this area has been to train 15 Community Health Outreach workers.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

AWWG is one of the few organisations working tirelessly to raise awareness of FGM and health implications of this practise on African women. The service generally, though not exclusively, fall within three broad areas:
  • Support and care services for women who have been infibulated including reversal provision
  • Prevention work within communities who participate in the practise
  • Awareness and education not only for the community, but also for health professionals. AWWG has been working closely with statutory providers in training/ workshop sessions for nurses and midwives.
HIV Awareness & Prevention Haringey & Enfield

For the last six years, AWWG has been pioneering HIV awareness work in the community, in collaboration with our strategic partners we have developed a community strategic approach whereby the wider African community is involved in the development, design and delivery of the programmes. This project provides sexual health awareness within the target communities in general and counselling service specifically to prevent African women through antenatal services.
